What is Sleep Apnea and How to Get Rid of It

Sleep apnea is a disorder that causes breathing difficulties while sleeping, and the brain alerts you to breathe by waking you up in the middle of your sleep.

The breathing stops and restarts when the person is sleeping. The person snoring or gasping loudly is a warning sign of sleep apnea, which can cause severe health complications if untreated.

What are the types of Sleep Apnea?

Obstructive Sleep Apnea:

OSA is the most common type of sleep apnea. OSA occurs when the airways are blocked by extreme relaxation of throat muscles. When the throat muscles relax, the tissues collapse and block the airways, this collapsing of muscles and blocking of the airways leads to breathing problems in a person while sleeping. A common symptom of OSA is extreme snoring.

Central Sleep Apnea

Central Sleep Apnea involves neurological problems, and the brain stops sending signals to your body to breathe. CSA is caused because of the involvement of the nervous system in it and not due to the symptoms like snoring and airway blockage.

Central Sleep apnea occurs when breathing-related muscles stop working as they do not get muscles from the brain. CSA is diagnosed in persons with brain infections and disorders related to brain functioning.

Complex Sleep Apnea

Complex sleep apnea is the combination of Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Central Sleep Apnea. Complex sleep involves the problems of upper airway blockages and the nervous system failing to signal to throat-related muscles.

How to get rid of sleep apnea?

A few lifestyle changes can help decrease the intensity of sleep apnea and reverse the disorder. In case of extreme sleep apnea diagnosis, here are a few ways of treatment to get rid of sleep apnea

Take control of your diet and maintain a healthy weight.

A healthy diet with minimal to no fat foods helps eliminate sleep apnea. The main reason for sleep apnea is the narrow air passages that make it difficult for the person to breathe. If your diet consists of heavy meals and processed food, this, in turn, takes your body to an unhealthy weight and narrowed air passages.

By reducing weight, one can quickly notice the changes in their sleep cycle and decrease sleep apnea symptoms.

Breathing exercises

Sleep apnea is all about making your airways clear to breathe correctly. Including breathing exercises and yoga in your routine helps strengthen the upper airway muscles and helps ease breathing. Yoga is an easy yet effective remedy for lowering the risk of sleep apnea.

CPAP Machine:

CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure and is a device used to provide continuous air pressure while sleeping.

Oxymed CPAP Machine is used to treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). OSA is a condition where the airway pressure is reduced during sleep. When the muscles that support the firmness of the throat are relaxed, airways are narrowed. In such conditions breathing temporarily cuts off, and sleep is disturbed. Breathing starts and stops while the person is sleeping. CPAP supplies the same air pressure in both exhaling and inhaling conditions.

BPAP Machine

BiPap is a Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure that supplies different amounts of air pressure while inhaling and exhaling.

Oxymed bipap machine is used to treat Central Sleep Apnea, Complex sleep apnea, the severe conditions when the person stops and starts repeatedly breathing while sleeping. It is also used to treat COPD – Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

Conclusion:

While home remedies can help you to reduce the risk of sleep apnea, BiPAP and CPAP machines are the preferred way by doctors to treat sleep apnea.

CPAP and BiPAP machines support breathing during the night and are reliable devices for quality and tension-free sleep. According to the severity and health conditions, the doctor recommends if the person needs CPAP or BPAP machine. However, these machines effectively treat central and complex sleep apnea and are easy-to-use, travel-friendly devices.
